ABU DHABI // UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed has spoken out against the idleness of the international community during the Israeli offensive on Gaza.
"The problem is if the international community keeps considering the Palestinian issue as a secondary topic and does not take serious steps to stop such brutal attacks," he said.
"If the security council does not condemn this and takes serious steps to stop these actions it will continue," he added.
"As Arabs we have to sit together and come up with positive mature thoughts that can deliver on the repeated promises that have been given to the Palestinians."
In a strong attack on the global response to the assault he said "It is easy to condemn and denounce the assaults that are happening to the Palestinians. However the main problem is the arrogance of the occupation."
He said that peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved if the occupation of the Palestinian Territories is going to continue with such arrogance from the Israelis.
He said this cannot be no peace can be found If the international community, the security council and the permanent members of the security council especially the United States do not start looking at this region with more importance.
"The area cannot continue to be viewed with a double standard, one standard for Israel and another for the other countries in the area.
"What is clear to us is that this status quo cannot be something that can be accepted by Arab and Muslim nations.
"For this issue to be resolved it has to be solved from its roots and the best way is to end the occupation."
