Gaspar Llamazares, a lawyer and member of Spain's Communist party, is an outspoken critic of the United States's "war on terror". And, according to the FBI, the 52-year-old's grey hair, jaw line and forehead bear an uncanny resemblance to how Osama bin Laden, also 52, might look today. In fact, the bureau was so convinced that they copied his image to a Photofit profile of the world's most wanted man.
Mr Llamazares was understandably not amused. He says he may sue and would no longer feel safe travelling to the United States. As for the FBI, they boasted about the "cutting edge" technology used to come up with the image. Despite billions spent on state-of-the-art spycraft, it seems we all have access to the tools of the trade: a pair of scissors and Google Images. If these are the brains leading the bin Laden hunt, it is hardly surprising that after nine years they have managed to catch only a Spanish MP.
