More than six hundred homes in Abu Dhabi have violated the capital's building code.
A recent inspection of 4,000 houses by Abu Dhabi Municipality found 645 homeowners and residents in breach of its laws.
The municipality continues its campaign to clamp down on bachelors' makeshift houses, and illegal partitioning of villas, apartments and residential and commercial buildings in the city.
It hopes to spread awareness on the health and environmental risks of overcrowding in bachelors' living quarters.
Violators are issued an initial warning, then given a grace period to remove the offence. The case is referred to the Municipal Court if they fail to do so.
Owaida Al Qubaisi, Acting Executive Director of Municipal Services Sector at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said: "In cooperation with the concerned bodies, the municipality is taking appropriate measures including the demolition and removal of offences as well as unlicensed walls and appurtenances."
