Helicopters and rescue vehicles added to Abu Dhabi Police's new-look fleet

Brand new Abu Dhabi Police helicopters and rescue vehicles with the force's new logo and colour were revealed in the capital on Monday.

Commander-in-chief Major General Mohammed Al Rumaithi launched the new fleet in a ceremony at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and said that the new livery is in line with the force's development process that is aimed to provide maximum security and high-quality services to people of the UAE.

Brigadier General Ibrahim Al Baloushi, head of the police Air Wing, said that the new helicopters will provide community and humanitarian services in remote areas of the emirate, as well as assistance in road-traffic incidents.

“The Air Wing helicopters are designed to respond quickly to emergency calls and can reach remote areas and external roads in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra to provide help, care and transfer patients and [those with] car accident injuries to specialised hospitals for treatment,” he said.

“The helicopters are also equipped with the latest medical equipment and a team of pilots, medical, search and rescue crews who are well trained and highly qualified.

“The Air Force cadres will transmit live images to the control centre to support ground patrols, monitor off-road routes at peak hours and support various departments of Abu Dhabi Police.”

The new Chevrolet Corvette rescue car is equipped with the latest rescue equipment to deliver rescue services, emergency response and quick access to accidents sites, while the Chevrolet Tahoe rescue responder car will deal with all types of accidents and rescue the injured.

“The new rescue vehicles' role is to respond quickly to various incidents, transport patients, provide medical coverage, respond quickly to calls for fire and rescue cases for traffic accident victims and deal with different situations through highly qualified cadres and national teams,” said Colonel Mohammad Al Amiri, director of emergency and public safety at Abu Dhabi Police.

Last month, the force unveiled its new livery for its vehicles - blue with an insignia on the car bonnet, in contrast to the red it has used for many years.

In July, police announced plans to rebrand and relaunch as a force, complete with new uniforms and American-style shield badges.

Dos

The smuggler

Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.

Khouli conviction

Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

For sale

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
