The UAE and Israel signed an agreement aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare in both countries.
The deal will involve the two countries co-operating on several areas related to health, including fighting the coronavirus pandemic, protecting medical data, cybersecurity, medical education, innovation and the use of artificial intelligence and other fields of advanced technology.
The agreement, which was announced by the Emirates Health Services Establishment, was signed by its director general Dr Yousif Al Serkal, and Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, in the presence of Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention.
Dr Al Serkal said the agreement would enhance the protection of health data for patients and involve the exchange of research between the two countries.
"The UAE and Israel have proven their superior prowess in the healthcare field, as the Covid-19 vaccination programmes in the two countries are among the fastest and most efficient globally," he said.
"It is natural for the two countries to develop their technical co-operation given that they are the most technologically advanced in the Middle East region."
Dr Al Serkal said the co-operation will contribute to supporting international efforts to combat the pandemic and help to find creative solutions to the emerging challenges facing the health sector.
He said the UAE and Israel "will seek to facilitate cross visits by experts and to set up major economic and health projects, in addition to strengthening co-operation between medical institutions".
The UAE and Israel signed the Abraham Accord last September and established direct diplomatic relations.
The two countries also signed several bilateral agreements, including a reciprocal visa-waiver deal.

La Mer lowdown
La Mer beach is open from 10am until midnight, daily, and is located in Jumeirah 1, well after Kite Beach. Some restaurants, like Cupagahwa, are open from 8am for breakfast; most others start at noon. At the time of writing, we noticed that signs for Vicolo, an Italian eatery, and Kaftan, a Turkish restaurant, indicated that these two restaurants will be open soon, most likely this month. Parking is available, as well as a Dh100 all-day valet option or a Dh50 valet service if you’re just stopping by for a few hours.

No more lice
Defining head lice
Pediculus humanus capitis are tiny wingless insects that feed on blood from the human scalp. The adult head louse is up to 3mm long, has six legs, and is tan to greyish-white in colour. The female lives up to four weeks and, once mature, can lay up to 10 eggs per day. These tiny nits firmly attach to the base of the hair shaft, get incubated by body heat and hatch in eight days or so.
Identifying lice
Lice can be identified by itching or a tickling sensation of something moving within the hair. One can confirm that a person has lice by looking closely through the hair and scalp for nits, nymphs or lice. Head lice are most frequently located behind the ears and near the neckline.
Treating lice at home
Head lice must be treated as soon as they are spotted. Start by checking everyone in the family for them, then follow these steps. Remove and wash all clothing and bedding with hot water. Apply medicine according to the label instructions. If some live lice are still found eight to 12 hours after treatment, but are moving more slowly than before, do not re-treat. Comb dead and remaining live lice out of the hair using a fine-toothed comb.
After the initial treatment, check for, comb and remove nits and lice from hair every two to three days. Soak combs and brushes in hot water for 10 minutes.Vacuum the floor and furniture, particularly where the infested person sat or lay.
