Three tons of cosmetics confiscated

ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi municipality has confiscated three tons of expired cosmetics and beauty products that do not list ingredients and expiration dates on the labels, officials say. The products were confiscated over the past two weeks as part of an inspection campaign to ensure health standards and avoid the spread of contagious diseases. Salons and cosmetics shops that did not meet hygiene standards were issued warnings. The municipality said it would "not hesitate to take any necessary actions against offenders of health conditions in order to maintain community health and safety". Offenders may be fined, banned from performing certain procedures, or have their commercial licence revoked. According to the municipality, salons have been receptive to their efforts. "Municipality checked all the products and left, and didn't say anything," said Jennifer Buenaobra, the supervisor of Tips and Toes in Marina mall. "Most of the time they check, and if [the municipality] has faults they give a warning, and then we take actions straight away." mdetrie@thenational.ae
