A new hi-tech Dh1.5 billion hospital in Dubai is ready to welcome its first patients - and will be fully operational by early next year.
The sprawling Fakeeh University Hospital, based across 90,000 square metres in Dubai Silicon Oasis, aims to be a centre of excellence for the latest advances in healthcare.
Developed by Fakeeh Care, a prominent health services provider in Saudia Arabia, and Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, the 350-bed facility boasts dedicated departments for the treatment of diabetes and endocrinology; muscles, bones, and joints; emergency medicine; pulmonary medicine; and cardiology.
Established as a 'smart' facility utilising advanced technology, the hospital will be set up to carry out organ transplants and boasts a 60-bed intensive care unit featuring 12 operating rooms developed in Germany and assembled in Dubai Silicon Oasis.
The state-of-the-art hospital will be officially opened in the first quarter of 2021.
“Smart cities of the future will employ advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, to enhance quality of life all around," said Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni, chief executive of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority.
"Today, the world is witnessing an unprecedented surge in technology advancements and applications across various dynamic sectors, especially healthcare.”
Dr Mazen Fakeeh, president and chairman of the Board of Fakeeh Care Group, said the hospital will embrace new technology to boost patient care.
“Fakeeh University Hospital at DSO, the integrated technology park, offers decades of specialised medical experience in a state of the art smart healthcare facility. We are delighted to begin welcoming patients ahead of the official opening at the start of 2021.
“The university hospital converges medical expertise and academic research to deliver outstanding healthcare that meets the unique needs of UAE patients. We look forward to utilising the smart and sustainable environment at DSO to offer world-class healthcare with the use of futuristic medical technology.”
Shaping the UAE's next generation of frontline workers
The hospital will offer top-level training to Emiratis and will also hire Emirati doctors who possess diverse experiences in various disciplines from different parts of the world.
It will work with leading technology companies, such as Siemens, Philips, and Cisco, to develop innovative practices which ensure staff have access to top resources.
Patients’ rooms include tablets that allow them to interact with their surroundings and the medical staff.
Patients can also verify their credentials through the hospital’s app, which operates through a technology-based joint control center that allows for around-the-clock patient follow-up.
