Health authorities released a list of the clinics, hospital and majales where people can now receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

A voluntary vaccine campaign began in Abu Dhabi this week and has been extended to Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

The Sinopharm vaccine – which is 86 per cent effective according to UAE regulators – is available at all clinics run by Abu Dhabi's public health operator, Seha, and at hospitals run by the private company VPS Healthcare from 8am to 8pm.

In Dubai, residents can get the injection at Dubai Parks and Resorts field hospital near Jebel Ali.

In Sharjah, it is available at Wasit Medical Centre from 4pm to 9pm. People can also be vaccinated at Majlis Mughaider, Al Madam Medical Centre, Kalba Medical Centre, Al Lulueyah Health Centre, Al Dhaid Medical Centre and the Family Health Promotion Centre.

In Ajman, people can go to Al Humaidiya Centre from 9am to 12.30pm and from 5pm to 8.30pm as well as visit Mushairif Health Centre.

Al Bait Metwahid Centre, Al Salamah Health Centre and Falaj Al Mula Medical Centre each in Umm Al Quwain provide the vaccine.

Murishid Medical Centre‎, Dadna Health Centre, Al Khulaibiya Health Centre in Fujairah all have vaccine stock for the public.

The timings for Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah centres are from 9am to 1pm Saturday to Thursday and Friday from 4pm to 9pm.

In Ras Al Khaimah, residents and Emiratis can receive vaccines at Immunity Health Centre‎, Al Jazirah Al Hamra Health Centre and Al Meireid Medical Centre.

The UAE approved China's Sinopharm vaccine for use after Phase-3 trials found it was effective against coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday said it had approved a request from the Chinese drug maker "in a major step towards combating the global pandemic".

The Sinopharm vaccine was widely trialled in the UAE in the summer in a campaign involving 31,000 people.

Residents can get the vaccine in government clinics and health centres in Abu Dhabi from 8am to 8pm.

Appointments can be booked through a network of Abu Dhabi health centres and clinics run by Seha.

Bookings can be made by calling 80050. A message which plays before the main menu options offers residents the option to arrange an appointment.

Private clinics, including all VPS Healthcare hospitals, can also be visited for vaccination against Covid-19.

The vaccine is administered in two injections, 21 days apart.

The Africa Institute 101

Housed on the same site as the original Africa Hall, which first hosted an Arab-African Symposium in 1976, the newly renovated building will be home to a think tank and postgraduate studies hub (it will offer master’s and PhD programmes). The centre will focus on both the historical and contemporary links between Africa and the Gulf, and will serve as a meeting place for conferences, symposia, lectures, film screenings, plays, musical performances and more. In fact, today it is hosting a symposium – 5-plus-1: Rethinking Abstraction that will look at the six decades of Frank Bowling’s career, as well as those of his contemporaries that invested social, cultural and personal meaning into abstraction.

Hydrogen: Market potential

Hydrogen has an estimated $11 trillion market potential, according to Bank of America Securities and is expected to generate $2.5tn in direct revenues and $11tn of indirect infrastructure by 2050 as its production increases six-fold.

"We believe we are reaching the point of harnessing the element that comprises 90 per cent of the universe, effectively and economically,” the bank said in a recent report.

Falling costs of renewable energy and electrolysers used in green hydrogen production is one of the main catalysts for the increasingly bullish sentiment over the element.

The cost of electrolysers used in green hydrogen production has halved over the last five years and will fall to 60 to 90 per cent by the end of the decade, acceding to Haim Israel, equity strategist at Merrill Lynch. A global focus on decarbonisation and sustainability is also a big driver in its development.
