A national who suffered ten miscarriages, gave birth to a baby girl in Abu Dhabi.
The woman and her family faced emotional distress because of the miscarriages but she was treated by a physician at Al Noor Hospital.
Dr Marwan Munir Kamil, head of the obstetrics and gynaecology department in Al Noor Hospital – Airport Road Branch said: “The 36 year old patient visited me when she experienced her 10th miscarriage, explaining her history of repeated pregnancy losses. In light of her previous experiences, I asked the patient to undergo comprehensive testing to thoroughly evaluate her case. After detailed investigations there was no real cause identified for her recurrent miscarriages besides having weakened cervical muscles, which I treated with a minor surgical procedure. After she conceived, I then put her on a preventive treatment regimen”.
Dr Kamil added: “The patient was closely monitored throughout her pregnancy up until the day she gave birth in the 9th month to a healthy baby girl. The patient underwent a cesarean section, which was determined by the position of the baby and was discharged from the hospital two days later”.
“Recurrent pregnancy loss accounts for 10 per cent of total pregnancies and the root cause of about 70 per cent of these cases is chromosomal abnormalities. Other causes may include hormonal abnormalities and immune system problems” concluded Dr Kamil.
The patient N M said in a statement: “Seeing my healthy baby made this entire journey totally worthwhile, I hope our story inspires many women out there who are going through a similar experience to not give up. Strong faith in God, determination and family support will carry you through the most difficult situations. Finding the right doctor is very important as well.”
