The UAE recorded its highest number of Covid-19 cases for a fourth consecutive day as 1,231 infections were confirmed on Saturday.

A further 1,051 patients were given the all-clear as the recovery tally climbed to 87,122.

Two more patients died as the death toll in the Emirates rose to 426.

The UAE announced its largest haul of daily tests to date - 117,812 - as the country crossed the 10-million test mark since the outbreak began.

Mass screening remains a key tenet of the UAE's efforts to combat the spread of the virus.

Authorities have reported 97,760 cases in total.

There are currently 10,212 active cases across the country.

The average daily total of Covid-19 cases in the past seven days now stands at 1,020.

Officials have called on the public to renew their commitment to the fight against Covid-19 to drive down infection rates.

Particular concerns have been raised over social gatherings, both at home and at venues such as shopping malls and restaurants.

Daily figures fell to as low as 164 on August 3 but have been steadily increasing since.

Despite the recent rise in cases, the number of recoveries remains encouraging.

The average number of daily recoveries over the same period is 1,063, outstripping new infections.

Authorities have taken tough action in recent weeks to curb the spread of the virus.

Closure orders, fines and warnings have been handed out to businesses failing to adhere to Covid-19 safety measures, such as ensuring workers are wearing face masks and following physical distancing practices.

On Saturday, Dubai's Department of Economic Development revealed a further 13 businesses had been fined for failing to comply with regulations.
