The Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday reported 994 cases of coronavirus in the UAE after conducting more than 50,000 tests.

The ministry said there had been a further 1,043 recoveries and four deaths.

The total number of cases now stands at 27,892, with 13,798 recoveries and 241 deaths.

Once again, a higher number of patients recovered from the virus than the number of newly infections detected.

The number of tests being carried out also continues to increase, up from 43,000 the day before.

As the end of Ramadan approaches, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has urged members of the public to stay at home during Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

Sheikh Mohamed, also the Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on Thursday called on people to behave responsibly in order to help the country to beat the outbreak.

He stressed the need to continue the good work of health officials.

“We want to keep our numbers low and they are starting to be somewhat promising,” Sheikh Mohamed said.

“However, this changed in Ramadan. So what I ask of our residents and citizens is to stay home during the last week of Ramadan and during Eid, especially for older people, children and people with special needs.

“I know it is hard but for us it means saving lives. For us, it means keeping our loved ones safe.

“We do not want everything that we did in the past months to be in vain due to a simple mistake that would cost us too much.”

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Tearful appearance

Chancellor Rachel Reeves set markets on edge as she appeared visibly distraught in parliament on Wednesday.

Legislative setbacks for the government have blown a new hole in the budgetary calculations at a time when the deficit is stubbornly large and the economy is struggling to grow.

She appeared with Keir Starmer on Thursday and the pair embraced, but he had failed to give her his backing as she cried a day earlier.

A spokesman said her upset demeanour was due to a personal matter.
