The UAE reported 1,107 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, raising the country's total infections to 168,860.

Another 714 patients were given an all-clear. So far, 154,899 people have recovered from the virus.

Authorities said two patients died, raising the number of fatalities to 572.

Health officials said 87,514 tests were carried out in the previous 24 hours.

There are 13,389 active cases in the country, for a rise of about 10,000 over two weeks. On November 4, less than 2,000 people had the virus.

The UAE has carried out more than 16.7 million tests since the outbreak began, part of a mass-screening strategy to limit the spread of the virus.

On Monday, Dubai's government urged the public to limit home gatherings and avoid crowds as the country marks a three-day break for National Day.

Private gatherings are allowed but they must be limited to no more than 20 people to help avoid the spread of Covid-19.

Federal authorities announced in September that family gatherings must include no more than 10 people.

Everyone should avoid crowded public places for their safety, officials said.

All public and private sector employees have a long weekend, starting Tuesday, to mark the UAE’s 49th National Day.
