The UAE recorded 1,100 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, the highest daily number of infections to date.
The cases were detected after 105,615 more tests were carried out across the country and raised the tally to 94,190.
Despite the high figure, recoveries still outstripped new infections with 1,186 patients being cleared of the virus. This brought the country's total recoveries to 83,724.
And three patients died of complications related to the coronavirus, raising the country's toll to 419.
Currently, at least 10,047 patients are battling the virus. To date, almost 89 per cent of all cases have ended in recovery.
The country's robust approach to screening has seen it carry out more than 9.7 million tests since the outbreak.
On Wednesday, Dubai Economy inspectors fined five businesses and warned three others on Tuesday for breaking health and safety measures – including workers not wearing protective masks.
Businesses in Nadd Al Hammar, Port Saeed and Naif were inspected, with employees working in retail, air-conditioning installation, wholesale trading and the textile and fabric industries found not wearing face masks.
In the first two weeks of September, police handed out more than 24,000 fines for breaking rules designed to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Most of those were given to people either without masks or to those wearing them incorrectly, around their chin or under the nose. People in Dubai were responsible for most of the offence.

Another way to earn air miles
In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Anxiety and work stress major factors
Anxiety, work stress and social isolation are all factors in the recogised rise in mental health problems.
A study UAE Ministry of Health researchers published in the summer also cited struggles with weight and illnesses as major contributors.
Its authors analysed a dozen separate UAE studies between 2007 and 2017. Prevalence was often higher in university students, women and in people on low incomes.
One showed 28 per cent of female students at a Dubai university reported symptoms linked to depression. Another in Al Ain found 22.2 per cent of students had depressive symptoms - five times the global average.
It said the country has made strides to address mental health problems but said: “Our review highlights the overall prevalence of depressive symptoms and depression, which may long have been overlooked."
Prof Samir Al Adawi, of the department of behavioural medicine at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, who was not involved in the study but is a recognised expert in the Gulf, said how mental health is discussed varies significantly between cultures and nationalities.
“The problem we have in the Gulf is the cross-cultural differences and how people articulate emotional distress," said Prof Al Adawi.
“Someone will say that I have physical complaints rather than emotional complaints. This is the major problem with any discussion around depression."
