The UAE recorded 1,506 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, its largest number of daily infections in more than two months.
A further 1,475 patients were given the all-clear as the recovery tally rose to 181,400.
Two patients died, raising the country’s death toll to 662.
It is the first time in eight days that daily infections have exceeded recoveries, leading to a rise in active cases to 22,307.
Authorities have confirmed 204,369 cases since the outbreak began.
The latest infections were detected after a further 153,157 tests.
Close to 20.6 million tests have been carried out nationwide as part of a comprehensive screening strategy aimed at limiting the spread of the virus.
The daily case figures are the highest since October 23, when 1,563 infections were identified.
The UAE had recorded its highest daily total to date just one day previous, on October 22, when 1,578 cases were reported.
The latest figures are an increase on the daily average for the month of December, which now stands at 1,224.
Dubai is stepping up Covid-19 safety measures to contain the spread of the virus during New Year's Eve celebrations on Thursday.
Private gatherings at homes and tents will be limited to 40, while 4,000 police will be on patrol to protect the safety of revellers.
Officers will be stationed at 23 main locations where celebrations are being held.
At least 2,000 patrol cars will roam the streets and 200 security points will be set up across the city.
Police said they would use artificial intelligence to monitor the temperatures of people attending the celebrations.
Three field hospitals will be set up across the emirate in case anyone is in need of medical care, Dubai Health Authority said.
