Coronavirus: UAE records 3,452 cases and 14 deaths

The UAE reported 3,452 Covid-19 infections on Wednesday while 14 patients died.

A further 3,570 patients overcame the virus in the previous 24 hours.

The latest figures took the country's case tally to 358,583, of which 343,935 have recovered.

The number of active cases fell to 13,593 as recoveries surpassed new infections for the seventh day running.

The death toll for the Emirates is now 1,055.

In the first 17 days of the month, 205 deaths were reported among patients with Covid-19.

An additional 185,502 tests were conducted during the reporting period, taking the total beyond 28.6 million.

Widespread testing and vaccination of the public are central to the UAE's efforts to control the spread of the virus.

On Tuesday, officials announced that more than 40 per cent of the UAE population had received at least one shot of the coronavirus vaccine.

The Emirates has a target of inoculating 50 per cent of its people by the end of next month.

Health authorities also said that nearly 48.6 per cent of the elderly had received the vaccine.

As of Wednesday, 5,284,406 doses of vaccine had been administered to the public, representing 53.43 doses per 100 people.
