More than 200 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the UAE on Sunday, while 323 patients recovered from the virus.
The 225 new infections were identified from 61,544 tests. Since the outbreak, 62,525 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the Emirates. Of these, 90 per cent, or 56,568, have recovered.
One patient died on Sunday, adding to a death toll of 357. At present, the number of active virus cases across the country stands at 5,600.
The UAE has conducted more than 5.5 million tests since January, making it one of the top countries to test for Covid-19 per capita.
Last week, officials said cases had begun to rise again because Emiratis and residents were not adhering to safety measures designed to prevent the spread of the virus.
Abdulrahman Al Owais, the Minister of Health and Prevention, said there had been a 30 per cent increase in the number of Emiratis contracting the virus.
“The main cause of the increased rate of cases is from social visits and gatherings without following the correct precautionary measures,” he said.
“During these times, the social ties and customs that are the source of our strength may be a threat to our lives and those of our loved ones.
“We should be keen to protect our families and our friends and be aware that these visits may pose a great danger to them, especially the elderly and people with chronic diseases.”
