Contributions have poured in for the World’s Tallest Donation Box to raise money for the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
About 180,000 lights on 18 floors of Burj Khalifa were lit up within 24 hours of the initiative’s launch.
The donations raised on the first day will help to provide 180,000 meals for those badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the UAE.
It is part of an initiative that aims to switch on 1.2 million lights on the facade of the Burj Khalifa in a message of hope and solidarity to the world.
Launched on Saturday as part of the "10 Million Meals" campaign, the World’s Tallest Donation Box allows companies, organisations and the public to buy lights at Burj Khalifa, for as little as Dh10 each.
When all are lit, that means 1.2 million meals or food parcels go to low-income people and families in the UAE.
Lights can be bought through the website www.tallestdonationbox.com.
The World’s Tallest Donation Box was launched by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, in collaboration with Burj Khalifa.
Within the first week of its launch, the 10 Million Meals campaign exceeded its target with donations that provided more than 11 million meals.

Etihad (Etihad.com), Emirates (emirates.com) and Air France (www.airfrance.com) fly to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, from Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively. Return flights cost from around Dh3,785. It takes about 40 minutes to get from Paris to Compiègne by train, with return tickets costing €19. The Glade of the Armistice is 6.6km east of the railway station.
