SHARJAH // The UAE is among the first countries in the region to adopt a new medical technology that treats chronic migraine with Botox injections, according to state news agency Wam.
University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) has made remarkable progress in the treatment of the disease, thanks to a new treatment protocol introduced by Dr Susan Ibrahim Nouri, Neurology Consultant and Multiple Sclerosis Specialist.
According to Dr Nouri, "treating migraine headaches by Botox involves injecting Botox into 31 sites in the head, neck and shoulder. This treatment is approved by a protocol issued by US Food and Drug Administration, based on the result of studies that showed evidence of improvement through its use".
UHS has been able to effectively deal with numerous advanced migraine headache symptoms due to the success of its medical team in determining the type and quantity of Botox doses, the therapy sessions required, as well as in following up on the treatment's development and impact.
"Effective relief is shown about 7-10 days post-injection and the treatment helps stop migraine headache problems for a period of up to three months, before the Botox fades and a new series of injection is needed to achieve best results," said Dr Nouri.
