Coronavirus: UAE records 1,191 new cases and two deaths

The UAE reported 1,191 new coronavirus cases and 2,713 recoveries on Monday.

Officials said two people died in the past 24 hours from complications.

The country has recorded 869,428 cases, 803,597 recoveries and 2,287 deaths since the first Covid-19 case was detected in the Emirates on January 29, 2020.

Widespread testing and tracing, stringent safety measures and a high vaccination rate have been credited for bringing down daily infections, but the emergence of Omicron caused cases to rise again.

An additional 389,858 tests were conducted over the 24-hour period, bringing the total number carried out since the beginning of the outbreak to 131 million.

Meanwhile, it was announced on Sunday that people in Abu Dhabi with severe Covid-19 symptoms are to be treated at a specialist department at Al Rahba Hospital.

Patients will first be assessed by the emirate’s prime assessment centres before being sent to the new “urgent care” centre if the case warrants it.

Those in critical condition will be admitted to intensive care unit and kept under supervision until their symptoms improve.

Al Rahba was one of the first hospitals to deal with Covid-19 patients. It is the dedicated infectious diseases facility in Abu Dhabi treating those who suffer from pulmonary tuberculosis, haemorrhagic fever, viral and respiratory infections, and HIV.
