The UAE is to build a new hospital in Kazakhstan named in honour of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces lent his support to a directive by President Sheikh Khalifa to construct the Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Hospital.
The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation finalised the agreement for the 3.5 hectare medical facility with the provincial government of Turkestan.
The deal was overseen by the foundation's president, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The agreement was signed by Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, director general of the foundation, and Umirzak Shukeyev, governor of the province of Turkestan.
Mr Al Khouri said the project highlighted the UAE's ongoing support for friendly nations and the foundation’s commitment to its humanitarian strategy, which prioritises education and health, locally, regionally and globally.
Mr Shukeyev thanked the UAE for its support, which reflected the strong ties between the countries.
The hospital, already under construction, will be part of the new administrative region being developed by Turkestan's provincial government, along with a general central hospital and a children's hospital.
Diplomatic relations between the UAE and the country in Central Asia were established in 1992. The two countries collaborate in several fields, including construction, chemistry, transport and logistics, engineering and, most notably, space.
The UAE's first astronaut, Hazza Al Mansouri, travelled into space in September last year while on board a rocket launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in the country.
Askar Mamin, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, paid an official visit to the UAE in October.

Described as 'the grandmother of the settler movement', she has encouraged the expansion of settlements for decades. The 79 year old leads radical settler movement Nachala, whose aim is for Israel to annex Gaza and the occupied West Bank, where it helps settlers built outposts.

Libi has been involved in threatening and perpetuating acts of aggression and violence against Palestinians. His firm has provided logistical and financial support for the establishment of illegal outposts.
Zohar Sabah
Runs a settler outpost named Zohar’s Farm and has previously faced charges of violence against Palestinians. He was indicted by Israel’s State Attorney’s Office in September for allegedly participating in a violent attack against Palestinians and activists in the West Bank village of Muarrajat.
