ABU DHABI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed met with Yemen’s prime minister, Khalid Bahah, on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing war in the country and cooperation between the UAE and its southerly neighbour.
Mr Bahah, who is visiting the UAE with a Yemeni delegation, briefed the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces about the latest political and military developments in his country and the role of the government in Aden after the city’s liberation.
Preparations for the liberation of the rest of Yemen was also discussed, as was the humanitarian and relief operations taking place across Yemen, state news agency Wam reported.
Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the UAE’s support, led by the President Sheikh Khalifa for the people of Yemen in overcoming the security and economic challenges the country faces. He also pledged UAE assistance in rebuilding the country after victory over the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
He added that the Saudi-led coalition’s Operation Restoring Hope “is proceeding according to the plan in terms of provision of humanitarian assistance, ensuring stability and security for all parts of Yemen, as well as contributing towards rebuilding the national, economic and social institutions for the people of Yemen to continue their march towards construction, development and prosperity”.
Mr Bahah thanked the UAE for its support and for providing humanitarian aid to the country’s cyclone-hit Socotra island.
The two countries also stressed their support for the United Nations-backed negotiations between the warring parties in Yemen.
