DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on Friday toured the site of the Dh25 billion District One project at Mohammed bin Rashid City.
The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the tour, where they reviewed models of the project, which will be built on a 50 million square metre area near Downtown Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed, who was briefed by Saeed Al Tayer, board chairman of project developer Meydan, said District One will offer a range of phenomenal features and activities including parks, man-made beaches and a stunning seven-kilometre stretch of crystal lagoon.
The first phase of the four-stage development, between Meydan racecourse and Al Khail Road, is scheduled to be completed before 2020, when Dubai’s population is forecast to reach 3.4 million, state news agency Wam reported.
Sheikh Mohammed also inspected the project’s show villas, featuring modern Arabic, Mediterranean and contemporary styles.
He said he admired the architectural designs of the villas and the project in general, describing it as integrated and smart.
“We are keen on giving thorough attention to the security of the UAE’s citizens and expatriate residents, their social and family stability and spread of happiness in every home and district, as well as to make happiness a culture in our homeland,” he said.
