Latest: Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's key moments of 2020 – in pictures
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, met in Dubai on Monday to discuss their hopes for a better year ahead.
The pair sat outdoors and maintained a distance of at least two metres, in accordance with Covid-19 safety regulations.
They reviewed issues related to the livelihoods of Emiratis and ways to improve happiness and social stability, state news agency Wam reported.
The leaders discussed Covid-19 and the country's vaccination programme. They praised the efforts of frontline workers, especially medical staff, for protecting the public and treating patients.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said they discussed their plans to make 2021 the UAE's best year yet.
"My brother, Mohamed bin Zayed, visited me today in Al Marmoom. A visit of a brother, leader and friend. Our country unites us," he said on Twitter.
"We are united by thinking of a better tomorrow and we are united by a desire to make 2021 the greatest year in the UAE's development."
On Monday, the pair discussed their current domestic and international tourism drive and how to attract visitors while still maintaining safety measures.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid took Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed on a tour of Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve.
"A tour of Al Marmoom lakes in the most beautiful winter of the UAE ... tours are sweet and life is sweet when they are accompanied by Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan," the Dubai Ruler said.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed shared images from the meeting on Twitter and said: "During my meeting with my brother Mohammed bin Rashid in Dubai, we discussed several issues, including the wellbeing of our citizens-the most important of all. We also discussed the UAE’s efforts to deal with global health challenges and support economic and social prosperity."
Monday's meeting was also attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, among others.

The UAE overhauled the procedure to recruit housemaids and domestic workers with a law in 2017 to protect low-income labour from being exploited.
Only recruitment companies authorised by the government are permitted as part of Tadbeer, a network of labour ministry-regulated centres.
A contract must be drawn up for domestic workers, the wages and job offer clearly stating the nature of work.
The contract stating the wages, work entailed and accommodation must be sent to the employee in their home country before they depart for the UAE.
The contract will be signed by the employer and employee when the domestic worker arrives in the UAE.
Only recruitment agencies registered with the ministry can undertake recruitment and employment applications for domestic workers.
Penalties for illegal recruitment in the UAE include fines of up to Dh100,000 and imprisonment
But agents not authorised by the government sidestep the law by illegally getting women into the country on visit visas.

Pharaoh's curse
British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon, who funded the expedition to find the Tutankhamun tomb, died in a Cairo hotel four months after the crypt was opened.
He had been in poor health for many years after a car crash, and a mosquito bite made worse by a shaving cut led to blood poisoning and pneumonia.
Reports at the time said Lord Carnarvon suffered from “pain as the inflammation affected the nasal passages and eyes”.
Decades later, scientists contended he had died of aspergillosis after inhaling spores of the fungus aspergillus in the tomb, which can lie dormant for months. The fact several others who entered were also found dead withiin a short time led to the myth of the curse.

It's up to you to go green
Nils El Accad, chief executive and owner of Organic Foods and Café, says going green is about “lifestyle and attitude” rather than a “money change”; people need to plan ahead to fill water bottles in advance and take their own bags to the supermarket, he says.
“People always want someone else to do the work; it doesn’t work like that,” he adds. “The first step: you have to consciously make that decision and change.”
When he gets a takeaway, says Mr El Accad, he takes his own glass jars instead of accepting disposable aluminium containers, paper napkins and plastic tubs, cutlery and bags from restaurants.
He also plants his own crops and herbs at home and at the Sheikh Zayed store, from basil and rosemary to beans, squashes and papayas. “If you’re going to water anything, better it be tomatoes and cucumbers, something edible, than grass,” he says.
“All this throwaway plastic - cups, bottles, forks - has to go first,” says Mr El Accad, who has banned all disposable straws, whether plastic or even paper, from the café chain.
One of the latest changes he has implemented at his stores is to offer refills of liquid laundry detergent, to save plastic. The two brands Organic Foods stocks, Organic Larder and Sonnett, are both “triple-certified - you could eat the product”.
The Organic Larder detergent will soon be delivered in 200-litre metal oil drums before being decanted into 20-litre containers in-store.
Customers can refill their bottles at least 30 times before they start to degrade, he says. Organic Larder costs Dh35.75 for one litre and Dh62 for 2.75 litres and refills will cost 15 to 20 per cent less, Mr El Accad says.
But while there are savings to be had, going green tends to come with upfront costs and extra work and planning. Are we ready to refill bottles rather than throw them away? “You have to change,” says Mr El Accad. “I can only make it available.”
