Sheikh Mohamed meets John Bolton and Jeremy Hunt — in pictures

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed held a series of meetings with foreign dignitaries on Monday.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces met with John Bolton, US National Security Adviser, at Al Shati Palace.

The two discussed ways to strengthen ties as well as other areas of mutual interest, according to a tweet from Sheikh Mohamed's account.

Since he assumed his post in April, Mr Bolton has been a strong advocate of increased sanctions on Iran, calling Tehran an "outlaw regime".

Last month, he announced the Trump administration's national security strategy for counter-terrorism that included "accelerated efforts to defeat terrorists" and the "radical Islamic ideology".

Also on Monday, Sheikh Mohamed met with Jeremy Hunt, the British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, which was held in Qasr Al Bahr Majlis, both sides discussed the bilateral relations between the UAE and the UK and ways to develop them to serve the interests of their people, reported state news agency Wam. The two also discussed regional and international developments concerning both countries.

Mr Hunt's visit came as Britain moves to position itself post-Brexit. He is also due to meet King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia in the kingdom.

As reported in The National, Mr Hunt wants to build support for the United Nations Security Council to take action to bolster the UN-led peace process in Yemen, following a meeting with UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths at the end of October.

Mr Hunt will also use his meetings to push for an investigation into the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, as well as raising the case of Matthew Hedges, the British academic accused of spying in the UAE.

On Monday, Sheikh Mohammed also held a reception at Qasr Al Bahr Majlis in Abu Dhabi for a delegation from the "Sharqiyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry" of Saudi Arabia and executives from international and regional oil and gas companies, who are visiting Abu Dhabi to attend Adipec.
