Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Ruler of Ajman, on Thursday.
The two leaders discussed ways to provide Emiratis with a sustainable and decent life, and to ensure their happiness and social stability in the UAE.
They also talked about continuing development work in the country.
The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and senior government officials.
The UAE regularly carries out work to ensure that citizens are capable of earning a decent livelihood and can enjoy a good quality of life.
Last month, final checks were under way at 323 villas in Sharjah before they were handed over to Emirati families in the emirate.
The villas are part of a Dh400 million ($108m) project to house citizens.
In July, 2020, Abu Dhabi announced that a 3,400-home residential community was to be built for Emiratis in Baniyas North, which is 30 minutes by road from Abu Dhabi city.
The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2023.
In November 2019, Sheikh Humaid ordered the authorities to provide houses to widows and divorced women who earned low incomes and had not benefited from the government's housing grant programme.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.

1 The kind of water athletes drink is important.
