Sheikh Mansour opens new mosque in Abu Dhabi



ABU DHABI // Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, on Wednesday opened the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque in Al Zaab.

Sheikh Mansour toured the mosque, which can cater for up to 3,000 worshippers, and offered the dhuhr prayer, state news agency Wam reported.

The mosque features the world’s largest holy Quran memorisation centre, which can accommodate 600 pupils, and an iftar centre run by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments.

It cost Dh60 million to build and the project was overseen by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

Sheikh Mansour was accompanied by Ahmed Juma Al Za’abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs.

The Armed Forces Martyrs’ Mosque was opened in Fujairah by Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah. Sheikh Hamad unveiled a memorial plaque and performed the dhuhr prayer.

The mosque, named in memory of Armed Forces soldiers killed while defending the country, can accommodate 1,700 men and 500 women.

Sheikh Hamad also visited the site of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah, which is expected to be the country’s second largest when finished.
