Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, has toured the emirate's mega project, Yas Bay.
Situated on the southern end of Yas Island, the development is home to the 18,000-seater Etihad Arena, dozens of cafes, a pier and promenade.
Work is advancing rapidly at the site which Sheikh Khalid assessed on Thursday.
First Sheikh Khalid toured the new Etihad Arena, which is Yas Bay's most striking component.
The indoor, air-conditioned arena with its distinctive gold fans will cater to 18,000 people when it opens soon.
The one-million square metre Yas Bay area also includes a sprawling Hilton hotel and the new headquarters of TwoFour54.
Sheikh Khalid also toured other parts of the development which are coming together.
"Projects such as Yas Bay are part of our efforts to raise the bar and set a new global standard in leisure and entertainment," he said.
"We are focused on realising our vision, no matter what changes we face, of cementing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for tourism, business, and investment."
During the visit, it was revealed the Hilton is set to open this year.
Yas Bay seeks to attract and keep more tourists on the island - already home to Warner Brothers, Yas Waterworld and the F1 track - while encouraging more residents to visit.
Development began in 2017 and a new pier area with restaurants and cafes is also at an advanced stage. Mosques and schools are also part of the development.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.
- An Egyptian Mummy mask dating from 700BC-30BC, is on offer for £11,807 ($15,275) online by a seller in Mexico
- A coffin lid dating back to 664BC-332BC was offered for sale by a Colorado-based art dealer, with a starting price of $65,000
- A shabti that was on sale through a Chicago-based coin dealer, dating from 1567BC-1085BC, is up for $1,950

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.

Tearful appearance
Chancellor Rachel Reeves set markets on edge as she appeared visibly distraught in parliament on Wednesday.
