SHARJAH // Election regulators in Sharjah have met to discuss the latest rules that candidates must follow in order to win a seat on the Federal National Council.
The Sharjah commission for the upcoming FNC elections held its first meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of Mansour bin Nassar, head of the legal department in the emirate, according to the state news agency, Wam.
Items up for discussion included existing plans for the October elections, the new electronic voting system and other technical requirements of the process.
Also reviewed were regulations for candidates’ elections campaigns and their coordination with other authorities, such as the Sharjah Municipalities, to guarantee smooth and efficient elections.
The National Election Committee met earlier this year to implement new initiatives to make the voting process easier, such as electronic voting that uses the ‘smart ID’ issued by the Emirates Identity Authority.
