The number of Emirati jobseekers in Sharjah has increased to almost 2,500 in the past two years.
Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, revealed the figures on Thursday during a call to the Direct Line (Al Khat Al Mubasher) radio show.
He said the database of registered Emirati jobseekers had grown from 1,000 to 2,500 in the past two years.
“There have been 800 employees who have had their employment terminated recently while others have resigned,” he said.
He said the Sharjah government is responsible for reviewing those cases and improving job opportunities.
He added the 800 people who had recently found themselves out of work would be given priority and everyone would be treated equally when it came to receiving help to find a new job.
“Jobs, housing, insurance and treatment are among my responsibilities,” he said.
The authorities in the emirate have helped find work for 3,000 people in the last number of years, he added, with 1,500 of those directly employed by the government thanks to Dh350 million investment.
He added there would also be a special focus on training and finding employment for those who still find themselves out of work, despite graduating up to five and six years ago.
He urged graduates to show patience until the Covid-19 pandemic was over.
