A Qatari sheikh who called for a radical overhaul of his country’s foreign policy has been welcomed in Abu Dhabi by the rulers and leaders of the UAE on Monday.
Sheikh Sultan bin Suhaim Al Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family, was welcomed to his “second home” by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, according to a statement shared by the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
“Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed received Sultan bin Suhaim Al Thani and welcome him to his second country, and reassured him of the fraternal and historical relations that gathers the two people and brothers,” the statement shared on Twitter read.
Sheikh Sultan and his accompanying delegation met with members of the country's ruling families during a majlis at Al Bahr Palace in the capital.
Sheikh Sultan has repeatedly called on the country's ruling family to do all it can to resolve the crisis with its neighbours and "purge our land" from any links to terrorist organisations.
Sheikh Sultan is one of at least three prominent Qatari figures to oppose the policies of the Emir, Sheikh Tamim, since the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic ties and air, road and sea transport links with Doha in June over its support of extremist and terrorist groups.
His assets were seized by the Doha government in October after he came out in support of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Thani's call for a national meeting of Qataris to deal with the ongoing Qatar crisis.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

- Cecelia Crocker was on board Northwest Airlines Flight 255 in 1987 when it crashed in Detroit, killing 154 people, including her parents and brother. The plane had hit a light pole on take off
- George Lamson Jr, from Minnesota, was on a Galaxy Airlines flight that crashed in Reno in 1985, killing 68 people. His entire seat was launched out of the plane
- Bahia Bakari, then 12, survived when a Yemenia Airways flight crashed near the Comoros in 2009, killing 152. She was found clinging to wreckage after floating in the ocean for 13 hours.
- Jim Polehinke was the co-pilot and sole survivor of a 2006 Comair flight that crashed in Lexington, Kentucky, killing 49.

Sharrie Williams
The American singer is hugely respected in blues circles due to her passionate vocals and songwriting. Born and raised in Michigan, Williams began recording and touring as a teenage gospel singer. Her career took off with the blues band The Wiseguys. Such was the acclaim of their live shows that they toured throughout Europe and in Africa. As a solo artist, Williams has also collaborated with the likes of the late Dizzy Gillespie, Van Morrison and Mavis Staples.
Lin Rountree
An accomplished smooth jazz artist who blends his chilled approach with R‘n’B. Trained at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC, Rountree formed his own band in 2004. He has also recorded with the likes of Kem, Dwele and Conya Doss. He comes to Dubai on the back of his new single Pass The Groove, from his forthcoming 2018 album Stronger Still, which may follow his five previous solo albums in cracking the top 10 of the US jazz charts.

Dubai-based singer Anita Williams will open the night with a set of covers and swing, jazz and blues standards that made her an in-demand singer across the emirate. The Irish singer has been performing in Dubai since 2008 at venues such as MusicHall and Voda Bar. Her Jazz Garden appearance is career highlight as she will use the event to perform the original song Big Blue Eyes, the single from her debut solo album, due for release soon.
