DUBAI // Food aid cards valued at Dh53,300 are being handed out to recovering addicts as part of a Dubai Police programme for Ramadan.
The narcotics department has started to distribute the cards to 129 recovering addicts who have been “serious” in their recovery efforts and are unable to provide for themselves.
The cards can be used in installments of Dh300 to Dh500 to buy food items at Aletihad co-op outlets, Dubai Police said on Wednesday.
Addicts are chosen based on records from the awareness and prevention department’s post-rehabilitation programme, which list recovering addicts who need financial assistance.
The programme is being carried out for the sixth year in a row, with the cooperation of the Dubai charity Beit Al Khair Society.
Col Eid Mohammed Thani, director of the narcotics department, thanked Beit Al Khair for the initiative.
