Council member criticises delay in delivering Emirates Post concerns

A UAE parliament member has hit out at “unacceptable” delays to his efforts to raise concerns over a rise in resignations at Emirates Post.

Federal National Council (FNC) representative Hamad Al Rahoomi  told a council meeting on Tuesday that 20 days had passed since he lodged a request to discuss the issue with the body's general secretary.

“The request should have been on the agenda to be passed to the cabinet for approval, but it is not, why is that?”

He said that the council’s activities should not affect the work put forward by members.

Earlier this month, FNC speaker Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, and the council’s secretary-general Ahmad Shabeeb Al Dhaheri were part of an official delegation that visited China from Nov 4 to 10.

“Now we will have to wait 20 more days to pass the request at the council and raise it to the cabinet,” he said.

The secretary-general said the request is being processed.

“We are conducting our procedures to phrase it and get it approved by the speaker, before presenting it to the council,” he said.

But Mr Al Rahoomi spoke of his frustration over the hold-up.

“We have been at the council for eight years, and this is unacceptable.

“We had already discussed the phrasing of the request and received approvals ahead of the first session last month.”

“This issue should be sorted, as per your earlier promises. The term will finish and we won't have sorted this issue yet.”

Mr Al Rahoomi had previously raised a question to the chairman of Emirates Post on declining Emiratisation rates and an increase in Emiratis resigning from the company.

“I received a written response from the minister the previous session, which opened doors to a further discussion, so I agreed with the council member that we turn the question into a topic to be discussed at the council.”

At the end of the session, the request was presented in front of the council and passed to the cabinet.

“Usually it doesn’t take long for the cabinet to approve a topic discussion request, it usually takes less than a month,” said Mr Al Rahoomi.
