The UAE is fully capable of overcoming the coronavirus crisis because of its wise leadership and the efforts of its citizens, said Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed.

Sheikh Mansour, also Minister of Presidential Affairs, said the country, led by President Sheikh Khalifa and under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, was moving forwards to continue its development.

He made his comments at an online meeting held by the UAE government between May 10 and 12, and titled "Preparations for the Post Covid-19 Period".

Sheikh Mansour said the UAE team, led by Sheikh Mohammed, was meeting all government authorities to assess their readiness to implement the country’s strategy for the future.

He said the UAE would use opportunities for a swift recovery and the lessons learnt from the outbreak to boost growth in all vital sectors.

“The circumstances facing the UAE will pass and next year the country will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its union while being stronger, more developed and prosperous,” Sheikh Mansour said.

He said the remote meeting was the largest government gathering of federal and local departments to discuss the medical and economic implications of the crisis.

"As one working team, we need to think and act differently, with the aim of not only overcoming the crisis but also meeting the requirements of the post Covid-19 world,” Sheikh Mansour said.

“We need to learn about the necessary changes to our government, culture, economy and institutions, to be in line with the new situation and benefit from opportunities while overcoming the challenges.”

He said the meeting was a milestone in the history of the country.

Crises bring out the best in people and the UAE is capable of overcoming the challenges as it has in the past, Sheikh Mansour said.

The meeting is being attended by more than 100 officials, including ministers, government officials and international experts, and focuses on health, education, economy, food security, community and the government.
