Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has spoken out about his enormous pride in the generosity of the UAE.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai said he would like to thank everyone for doing their bit to support various philanthropic initiatives in the country and further afield.

In a video posted on Twitter, he took pains to reassure the nation that the coronavirus "crisis" would end.

He stressed that what was most important in any time of upheaval was altruism and giving, ensuring that those left struggling had the support they needed.

"He who ignores the sufferings of his fellow humans does not deserve the honour of belonging to the human race," he said.

"I say to everyone: this is a crisis and every crisis comes to an end. What lives on is the good deeds."

Sheikh Mohammed went on to reveal that on Saturday he had chaired the annual board meeting of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives organisation.

He said that in 2019 alone, the group had helped promote 200 humanitarian and healthcare projects worldwide, benefiting an estimated 71 million people across 108 countries. He said 124,000 volunteers had assisted with their work.

"Our happiness lies in giving and it is an honour to provide for those in need," he said. "The UAE is blessed with its giving nature.

"We have around 30 charitable organisations and we are ready to launch more."
