All public beaches in Sharjah are to be allowed to reopen with immediate effect, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The emirate's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Team said beach-goers must abide by Covid-19 safety measures, including wearing face masks and adopting physical distancing practices.

Officials reiterated that members of the public are not required to wear masks when swimming in waters while at the beach.

The reopening of public beaches is part of a gradual lifting of restrictions in Sharjah.

On June 24, it was announced that private beaches, cinemas, auction houses, valet services, gyms for men and women, restaurants, swimming pools, play areas and museums would reopen at a 50 per cent capacity.

All government staff in Sharjah were permitted to return to their workplaces on Sunday, July 19.

The results of the first round are as follows:

Qais Saied (Independent): 18.4 per cent

Nabil Karoui (Qalb Tounes): 15.58 per cent

Abdelfattah Mourou (Ennahdha party): 12.88 per cent

Abdelkarim Zbidi (two-time defence minister backed by Nidaa Tounes party): 10.7 per cent

Youssef Chahed (former prime minister, leader of Long Live Tunisia): 7.3 per cent
