Construction milestone at UAE-funded military hospital in Pakistan

The second phase of a key UAE-funded military hospital in Pakistan has been completed.

The Pakistani-Emirati Military Hospital is being built in Rawalpindi, located in Punjab province near Islamabad, at a cost of US$108 million (Dh397m).

It is one of the projects under way in Pakistan under the directives of President Sheikh Khalifa, reported Wam, the state news agency.

The UAE’s Project to Assist Pakistan, established to implement humanitarian and development projects in the country, said that the hospital will be equipped to perform about 50 major surgical operations per day.

When completed, it will have 1,000 beds and 16 fully-equipped surgical theatres. The hospital is funded by the Project to Assist Pakistan, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

The projects are also supported by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Normcore explained

Something of a fashion anomaly, normcore is essentially a celebration of the unremarkable. The term was first popularised by an article in New York magazine in 2014 and has been dubbed “ugly”, “bland’ and "anti-style" by fashion writers. It’s hallmarks are comfort, a lack of pretentiousness and neutrality – it is a trend for those who would rather not stand out from the crowd. For the most part, the style is unisex, favouring loose silhouettes, thrift-shop threads, baseball caps and boyish trainers. It is important to note that normcore is not synonymous with cheapness or low quality; there are high-fashion brands, including Parisian label Vetements, that specialise in this style. Embraced by fashion-forward street-style stars around the globe, it’s uptake in the UAE has been relatively slow.

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
