Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, has offered his best wishes to Yoshimasa Hayashi, Foreign Minister of Japan, which will host the next Expo.
The pair met in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
Sheikh Abdullah and Mr Hayashi spoke about Japan’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai and the opportunity the event offered for mutual co-operation between their countries.
Osaka is preparing to host the next world’s fair, which is scheduled to take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025, in Yumeshima.
The city previously hosted the event in 1970 and 1990.
Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the visit of the Japanese foreign minister and highlighted the good relations between the UAE and Japan.
He expressed his keenness to push ahead with mutually beneficial co-operation between the countries.
The pair discussed regional and international developments, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Both spoke about the importance of supporting international efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis and achieve stability and balance in the international energy and commodities markets, which have been disrupted by the conflict.
Mr Hayashi said his country was keen to boost strategic relations with the UAE in various fields, and commended the country for making Expo 2020 Dubai a success despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State, and Shihab Alfaheem, the Emirati ambassador to Japan.
Sheikh Abdullah also hosted a dinner in honour of Mr Hayashi and the accompanying delegation.
