Abu Dhabi Police on Wednesday greeted travellers from Oman with roses and gifts as land borders reopened to fully vaccinated people.
Those arriving in Abu Dhabi were welcomed by police officials to celebrate the return of traffic via road between the two countries.
Travellers expressed their happiness at visiting the UAE, which they called their "second country", and thanked officials for their generosity and warm welcome.
Oman reopened land borders between the sultanate and the UAE from Wednesday noon.
People in the UAE who have had both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine can travel to the sultanate. This includes Omani citizens, residents, anyone who does not need a visa to travel to Oman and those who can use the country's visa-on-arrival service.
Anyone entering the UAE from Oman by crossing the land border must present a negative PCR test from the previous 48 hours. A rapid PCR test will also be conducted at the point of entry to the UAE.
Another PCR test must be completed on day four and day eight, if staying in the country that long.
