Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, held talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on Wednesday at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The two leaders reviewed the UAE's strategic plans and initiatives aimed at accelerating development and providing an environment for businesses and sustainable economic growth, state news agency Wam reported.

They discussed the latest edition of the National Agenda and projects to move the UAE towards a new phase of economic competitiveness, underpin its regional and international status in all areas and take the country to new frontiers regionally and internationally, Wam said.

The UAE leaders emphasised that the UAE is looking forward to delivering a brighter future where human capital lies at the heart of all economic and developmental plans over the coming decades.

Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter that he was optimistic about the future of the country and that new strategic projects would be announced soon.

"Today I met with my brother Mohammed bin Rashid. We discussed upcoming strategic projects and the future direction of our government. Under the leadership of President Sheikh Khalifa, our economy is growing stronger, more competitive and able to adapt to global change," Sheikh Mohamed wrote on Twitter.

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Why are asylum seekers being housed in hotels?

The number of asylum applications in the UK has reached a new record high, driven by those illegally entering the country in small boats crossing the English Channel.

A total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025, the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001.

Asylum seekers and their families can be housed in temporary accommodation while their claim is assessed.

The Home Office provides the accommodation, meaning asylum seekers cannot choose where they live.

When there is not enough housing, the Home Office can move people to hotels or large sites like former military bases.
