Google Doodle commemorates UAE National Day

ABU DHABI // As celebrations filled the country, Google played its own part with a UAE flag in their Doodle.

Logging on to the Google search engines site brought visitors to a page where the famous multicoloured Google was red with a UAE flag in the shape of a ribbon wrapped around it with the end of the flag replacing the “L” in Google.

Once the Doodle is clicked on, visitors were redirected to the result page for the search “United Arab Emirates National Day”.

This was not the first time in the past week for the Google Doodle to join the UAE in its celebrations.

Following Dubai’s victory to host Expo 2020 on Wednesday, the Google Doodle played tribute the following day by changing their logo to blue and white to represent the Expo logo.

The words “Congratulations Dubai, winner of Expo 2020” appeared when the mouse hovered over the Doodle.

For several years Google has paid tribute to National Day, featuring doodles of eagles, camels and flags. While some were obvious, others were less so but representing the country’s culture and heritage.

Google Doodles first made an appearance in 1998. Thousands have been designed over the years to commemorate a wide array of events and anniversaries.
