Fujairah court told lift ended in assault

An Emirati man has been accused of harassing a school cleaner who he had offered a lift, Fujairah Criminal Court heard this week.

The defendant stopped his car when he saw the cleaner waiting on the road and asked her if she wanted driven to her workplace, Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National reported.

But instead of stopping at the main entrance of the school where she worked, the defendant allegedly pulled over close by and harassed her, the court heard.

The woman escaped before calling police.

A verdict will be given on November 22.
