Five men have been sentenced to a year in prison and fined more than Dh1 million following a robbery in Dubai.
Prosecutors told how the gang attacked a man who was carrying Dh1.85m of cash in the city in August this year.
Using pepper spray, the men were able to disable their victim, from Sudan, and flee the scene.
Police were later able to identify all five, aged between 22 and 41, and arrest them.
Officers also recovered the stolen cash, minus Dh100,000 which had already been spent by the gang.
“I tried to resist and chase them but I couldn’t,” the victim told Dubai Criminal Court.
The five defendants were ordered to be deported after completing their prison terms.
