Facebook and Microsoft are among the companies that will train young people for the workplace under the UAE's One Million Arab Coders initiative.
The Dubai Future Foundation on Monday announced the signing of deals with several major international firms to support the initiative launched in October last year by Vice President and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Among the other companies is Oracle, SAP, Careem, Consensys, Emirates NBD, UDACITY, and Barmej.com.
The signing ceremony was attended by UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, senior officials of partner companies.
The coders initiative is intended to capture the imagination of young Arabs and position them for an industry that is expected to generate hundreds of thousands of jobs in the future.
Minister Al Olama said: "The initiative also supports the aspirations of the youth to stay abreast of global technological developments.
"The international support and strategic partnerships this initiative has attracted highlights its importance and relevance. The initiative is also part of our efforts to prepare the new generation for the future by helping them gain advanced technology skills that allow them to widen their expertise and meet job market requirements. We look forward to continuing our One Million Arab Coders journey in partnership with our private sector partners."
Oracle, Microsoft and SAP, will provide training opportunities to participants who qualify for the advanced rounds of the programme, in addition to an internationally recognised certificate.
Consensys and Coded will provide internship opportunities for participants in the category of trainer, along with international certification that will enable them to train youth in coding.
Facebook will provide infrastructure services as well as training and e-marketing, in addition to support for 100 participants to launch start-up projects.
Microsoft, Careem, and Emirates NBD will provide training and job opportunities for winners of the programme.

The Abu Dhabi Supreme Petroleum Council was established in 1988 and is the highest governing body in Abu Dhabi’s oil and gas industry. The council formulates, oversees and executes the emirate’s petroleum-related policies. It also approves the allocation of capital spending across state-owned Adnoc’s upstream, downstream and midstream operations and functions as the company’s board of directors. The SPC’s mandate is also required for auctioning oil and gas concessions in Abu Dhabi and for awarding blocks to international oil companies. The council is chaired by Sheikh Khalifa, the President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi while Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, is the vice chairman.
