Most parts of the UAE experienced rainfall on Sunday leading to a weather warning from forecasters.
The country was cloaked in thick cloud in the early hours of the new week before rain began to fall over the coastal areas.
The downpour prompted a weather warning from the National Centre for Meteorology, who issued an orange alert for Abu Dhabi asking people to "be prepared". It also warns of "hazardous weather events" and urges people to comply with advice issued by authorities.
A yellow "be aware" warning was issued for the stretch between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, asking people to be on their guard before taking part in any outdoor activities.
In Abu Dhabi, police called on motorists to drive carefully and at a reduced speed of 80 kilometres per hour during "fluctuating weather conditions".
The force shared a video of accidents caused by aquaplaning and reminded motorists that speed cameras would be adjusted to the speed advertised on the digital towers on motorways.
Daytime temperatures are set to reach 25°C in Abu Dhabi while Dubai as fresh winds will reach up to 45kph in open areas, forecasters said.
It will feel warmer inland, with the mercury climbing to 28°C. Stronger winds will bring blowing dustfrom the desert.
But a cooler day is in store for the Northern Emirates where the temperature will struggle to hit 20°C.s over higher ground.
Humidity will increase with the nightfall and there is a likelihood of fog and mist formation. This might result in hazardous driving conditions on Monday morning.
The week ahead looks more settled, with sunny, yet cloudy weather while temperatures will be in the mid-20s.
