Forecasters issued a red alert early on Thursday morning to warn of thick fog across most of the country.
The National Centre of Meteorology said the fog would reduce visibility to less than a kilometre and would last until 11am.
Most of Abu Dhabi emirate, eastern Dubai and central Sharjah were expected to experience the fog.
Once this cleared, a fair and partly cloudy day was forecast with an expected rise in temperature over the eastern and northern areas of the country.
Highs of 28°C are expected along the coast with 31°C inland and 21°C in the mountains. Minimum temperatures will drop to 13°C along coastal areas, 9°C inland and 6°C in the mountains.
The temperature increase is expected to continue over the next five days with a chance of rain over the sea and westward islands.
Wind speeds will peak at 30kph and the Sea of Oman and Arabian Gulf will be pleasant for anyone planning a weekend by the beach.
The fog will return by Friday morning but, once this passes, residents and Emiratis can expect a generally warm day with cooling winds.
Saturday may be dusty and partly cloudy, becoming more overcast as the day passes.
Winds will pick up slightly and the Sea of Oman and Arabian Gulf will get a little choppy.

La Mer lowdown
La Mer beach is open from 10am until midnight, daily, and is located in Jumeirah 1, well after Kite Beach. Some restaurants, like Cupagahwa, are open from 8am for breakfast; most others start at noon. At the time of writing, we noticed that signs for Vicolo, an Italian eatery, and Kaftan, a Turkish restaurant, indicated that these two restaurants will be open soon, most likely this month. Parking is available, as well as a Dh100 all-day valet option or a Dh50 valet service if you’re just stopping by for a few hours.

Sukuk explained
Sukuk are Sharia-compliant financial certificates issued by governments, corporates and other entities. While as an asset class they resemble conventional bonds, there are some significant differences. As interest is prohibited under Sharia, sukuk must contain an underlying transaction, for example a leaseback agreement, and the income that is paid to investors is generated by the underlying asset. Investors must also be prepared to share in both the profits and losses of an enterprise. Nevertheless, sukuk are similar to conventional bonds in that they provide regular payments, and are considered less risky than equities. Most investors would not buy sukuk directly due to high minimum subscriptions, but invest via funds.
