UAE weather: foggy start to New Year expected to clear to fair skies

It could be a foggy start to the New Year in coastal areas of the country this morning.

Forecasters had predicted early morning fog, and warned the timing could not be predicted, but in the end it did not ruin the UAE’s fireworks displays, which passed without a hitch.

However, forecasters warned that the risk of fog will last until 9am this morning on the coast.

That will likely have cleared by the time many revellers wake, leaving fair to partly cloudy skies, with temperatures ranging from a chilly 12°C to 30°C inland and between 15°C and 28°C on the coast.

It will become increasingly humid tonight and into the early morning, raising the possibility of further fog.

Winds will be light to moderate at 16-28 kilometres per hour, but could pick up to 35kph at times.

The seas will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.

Conditions are expected to be similar for rest of the working week, but forecasters are predicting a dip in temperatures on Friday.
