One of the main routes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai remained impassable on Monday with the interchange to Sheikh Zayed Road from Saadiyat Island still shut due to flooding. The closure resulted in bumper to bumper traffic. Motorists were advised to use Salam Street instead. It came after more rain was expected on mid morning on Monday as showers continued to wreak havoc, straining the UAE's drainage network, leading to flooding on many roads and residential areas. Over the weekend, scores of flights were delayed or cancelled at Dubai International Airport due to the heavy flooding that stopped some airport workers getting to work. And more than 300 traffic accidents were recorded in just two days in Dubai. Forecasters have said the UAE could continue to experience showers until Wednesday, almost a week after an unsettled spell began that resulted in widespread flash flooding and hundreds of traffic accidents. Residents woke to gloomy skies again across many parts of the UAE on Monday as forecasters at the the National Centre of Meteorology warned about a chance of light rain during the day. Wind speeds may reach up to 45 kilometres per hour by the coast, said the weather bureau. NCM issued a warning overnight about fog affecting an area in the east of the country near the border with Oman. Temperatures could reach 20°C in Abu Dhabi and 19°C in Dubai. More rain could fall on Tuesday and Wednesday, which will be accompanied by gusty winds at times, according to forecasters.
