UAE weather: cool start as temperatures fall below 10 degrees

Cool weather across the UAE is set to continue on Monday as residents woke up to temperatures below 10 degrees in some parts of the country.

Following the coldest weekend so far this winter, it had been forecast that temperatures would rise slightly today, with winds dying down.

However, at 7am, it was just 10.8 degrees in Umm Al Quwain. At the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, it was 14.2 degrees, while it was slightly warmer in Abu Dhabi, where the temperature was 18.8 degrees. However, it was just 9.6 degrees at Al Faqa, a village on the border of Abu Dhabi and Dubai border, close to Oman.

On Sunday, a UAE low of just 2.7 degrees was recorded at Jebel Jais, in Ras al Khaimah, the UAE’s tallest mountain. The lowest temperature recorded at Jebel Jais on Monday was 3.8 degrees, at 6:15 am. The coldest place in the UAE on Monday was Raknah, near Al Ain, where 3.4 was recorded at the same time.

Temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day. A high of 24 degrees is expected in Dubai, with forecasters expecting 23 degrees to be as warm as it gets in Abu Dhabi.

The National Centre for Meteorology has said UAE residents should expect “fair to partly cloudy” weather in general, with mild temperatures in day time which would fall by night. There is likely to be moderate winds and rough seas.

Fog is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially inland. It is likely to become warmer by the weekend, with highs of 28 degrees in Abu Dhabi and 27 degrees in Dubai predicted.
