FUJAIRAH // Worshippers across the country came together with Rulers of emirates to perform Salaat Al Istisqaa, to pray for rain.

A total of 300 mosques performed prayers across the country, said state news agency Wam.

In Fujairah, at Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Muslims prayed alongside Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and a number of senior officials.

Saeed Al Marzouqi was one of the people who joined the ceremony and prayed for Allah to bless the land with rain after a request from the President, Sheikh Khalifa, to do just that.

“Allah is merciful and we believe that he will bless our land and send us rain,” said Mr Al Marzouqi. ”Many people attended the prayers and asked Allah for forgiveness, we prayed and said Doaa, we can’t do much and no one besides Allah can rescue us in hard times.”

Another worshipper said that everyone present listened to the imam’s speech and prayed with their hearts and souls.

“We prayed for Allah to forgive our sins and bless us with rain. Rain is life and only his mercy could save us,” said Ibrahim Khalil, from Egypt.

“We hope that it would rain soon. The weather has changed since last year as I recall having heavy rainfall in November and December last year but not this year.”

In Ajman, Ruler Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi performed prayers at Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi Mosque, while Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, of RAK, performed prayers at the Grand Eid Musallah alongside sheikhs, senior officials, Emiratis and expatriates.

Sheikh Hazza bin Tahnoun, undersecretary of the Court of the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, also performed the prayers at the Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed the First Mosque in Al Ain, while in Dubai, prayers were held at the Khamis Mathar Al Mazeina Mosque and led by Major General Mohammed Ahmed bin Fahd, assistant of the chief of police for academy and training, while in the capital Dr Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, prayed for rain along with the authority’s executive managers and worshippers at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
