Abu Dhabi clean energy company Masdar launched a global sustainability campaign to mark its 15th anniversary.
The campaign, For A Sustainable Future, will reinforce the UAE’s focus on renewable energy, sustainable technology and sustainable development goals.
It will also highlight real-world examples of the company’s investment in the transition to cleaner energy sources and reiterate its commitment to a sustainable future.
"We in the UAE have always viewed climate challenge as an opportunity to diversify our economy, building knowledge, skills and jobs. For A Sustainable Future will celebrate our many achievements, which have positioned Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a global renewable energy leader," said Dr Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and chairman of Masdar.
Despite the pandemic, Masdar has maintained its growth trajectory.
The capacity of the renewable energy projects that the company is a partner in has more than doubled over the past two years, from four gigawatts to 11 gigawatts – enough electricity to power more than four million homes – with a combined value of $19.9 billion.
"It demonstrates that the pace of the energy transition is accelerating, as the UAE continues to drive sustainable development and as clean energy technologies become more economically compelling," said Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, chief executive of Masdar.
"Masdar today is supporting communities in more than 30 countries ... and we look forward to extending our global footprint and delivering a more sustainable future for all."
Masdar's activity in those countries has a total renewable energy capacity of 10.7 gigawatts. The company is aiming to double its capacity over the next five years and is targeting new projects in South-East Asia, Central Asia and Israel.
The company is owned by Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company.

How much of your income do you need to save?
The more you save, the sooner you can retire. Tuan Phan, a board member of SimplyFI.com, says if you save just 5 per cent of your salary, you can expect to work for another 66 years before you are able to retire without too large a drop in income.
In other words, you will not save enough to retire comfortably. If you save 15 per cent, you can forward to another 43 working years. Up that to 40 per cent of your income, and your remaining working life drops to just 22 years. (see table)
Obviously, this is only a rough guide. How much you save will depend on variables, not least your salary and how much you already have in your pension pot. But it shows what you need to do to achieve financial independence.

Countdown to Zero exhibition will show how disease can be beaten
Countdown to Zero: Defeating Disease, an international multimedia exhibition created by the American Museum of National History in collaboration with The Carter Center, will open in Abu Dhabi a month before Reaching the Last Mile.
Opening on October 15 and running until November 15, the free exhibition opens at The Galleria mall on Al Maryah Island, and has already been seen at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
